Berfu's Interview with Zeynep

Berfu from the Cultural Studies MA Programme at Sabancı University conducted an oral history interview with Zeynep.

Berfu:
“Zeynep decides to move from Istanbul first to Beirut and then to England. Later, however, thinking that building a life in Istanbul makes her feel better, she returns to Istanbul. Zeynep provided me with an interesting counterexample of the brain drain, given that she migrated back to her country. I wanted to learn not about the reasons for leaving but the reasons for staying while having the option of leaving.”

From the interview:
“You know, there are people who can live just about anywhere. The emotional bond I have to this city, to my friends, not everyone has that. Myself, I go where my heart takes me. It’s all because I am such a romantic.”

During the interview, Zeynep drew a sketch of the house in Germany her family lived in for a year during her childhood.
